TAMBURELLO FESTIVAL
Torni e ritorni
XV edition
The Tamburello festival is an event that values ??some parts of regional culture. Therefore, on August 18, more events are organized simultaneously in the streets of Zambrone. The Sagra Aramonese offers the public local dishes, especially desserts. The "Gallery of arts and ... a thousand flavours!" proposes, instead, an insight of craftsmanship. The Giants Mata and Grifone are two enormous puppets that recall an ancient legend of love. Finally, Camejuzza is the fireworks display that retraces the historical events of 1061, when the Normans defeated the Saracens. The heart of the event is dedicated to popular music. The utmost protagonists, are the traditional Calabrian musical instruments. Every year the festival proposes at least one name belonging to the Calabrian musical tradition. To follow are groups that mainly interpret popular music. Over the years, other groups from Southern Italy, especially from Puglia, have also been hosted. The leitmotif of the festival is given by a theme that varies from year to year and is conveyed through the creation of a coherent logo, also changing with each edition. Another feature is the musical proposal, which is always based on tradition (with all the limitations inherent in this choice). The first edition of the festival dates back to 2004. Since then it has always taken place without interruption (except for 2015). The event is organized by the Aramoni Humanistic and Scientific Studies Centre in Zambrone.
Corrado Alvaro wrote: "Return is the most beautiful word". The theme chosen for 2019 is "Torni e ritorni". A play on words that brings together the plural of lathe and return. The lathe was a pedal instrument (nowadays electric) which was used to build bagpipes and pipes, two main tools of the Calabrese dance-musical tradition. The word return evokes emigration and the return to one's own land. The clockwise and anticlockwise movement of the lathe transmits, in this sense, both the ideas of ??leaving and returning. The popular music that is revived in its essence keeps its charm intact and is the leitmotif of these physical and soul movements.
