TAMBURELLO FESTIVAL
X edition
Puntati su dieci rote (Dancing in ten rings)
The Tamburello festival is an event aimed at the enhancement of certain segments of regional ethnic culture. On 18th August several events will take place simultaneously throughout Zambrone. The festival offers the public the tasty local Aramonese cuisine, with particular attention given to sweets and cakes. The Gallery of Arts and... a thousand flavours! gives an insight into indigenous crafts. The Giants, Mata e Grifone, are two huge puppets that evoke an ancient legend of love. Finally the Camejuzza is a firework display that traces the historical events of 1061, when the Normans defeated the Saracens. The heart of the exhibition is devoted to ethnic music. The absolute protagonists are all the traditional Calabrian musical instruments. The result is a festival dedicated to the Calabrian tarantella, able to drag everybody into the ethnic dances; women and men, young and old people, children and adults, Italians and foreigners. The theme chosen for the tenth edition is: “Puntati su dieci rote” (Dancing in ten rings). “Facimu rota” (Let’s make a ring) is an expression used in some Calabrian popular dances. It means we must stick together! And now more than ever we need to get together. Someone has said that Calabria could be compared to a huge open-air museum. Perhaps this is rather excessive: it makes you think of something old and out-dated, to look at as if on a school trip, visited distractedly with your eyes rather than your heart. Get away with you! History goes together well with the present. It’s just that sometimes there has to be someone who gets them to agree, by highlighting the lines of convergence. We think we are helping to bring this about by… dancing in ten rings!
