TAMBURELLO FESTIVAL
IX edition
Passate dalla memoria (Passage in memory)
The Tamburello festival is an event aimed at the enhancement of certain segments of regional ethnic culture. On 18th August several events will take place simultaneously throughout Zambrone. The festival offers the public the tasty local Aramonese cuisine, with particular attention given to sweets and cakes. The Gallery of Arts and... a thousand flavours! gives an insight into indigenous crafts. The Giants, Mata e Grifone, are two huge puppets that evoke an ancient legend of love. Finally the Camejuzza is a firework display that traces the historical events of 1061, when the Normans defeated the Saracens. The heart of the exhibition is devoted to ethnic music. The absolute protagonists are all the traditional Calabrian musical instruments. The result is a festival dedicated to the Calabrian tarantella, able to drag everybody into the ethnic dances; women and men, young and old people, children and adults, Italians and foreigners. The theme chosen for the ninth edition is: “Passate dalla memoria” (Passages in memory). The play on words in the title revolves around the word Passate which on one hand evokes past ages and on the other a musical module firmly anchored in Calabrian popular tradition. Three groups will be performing: Giamberiani, Lisarusa, Radici Calabre, proposing an exclusively Calabrian musical repertoire. The evening will be enriched by a photographic exhibition of popular festivals in Calabria highlighting traditional musical instruments and moments of dance.
