TAMBURELLO FESTIVAL
VIII Edition
TWO HUNDRED... LIRE
The Tamburello festival is an event aimed at the enhancement of certain segments of regional ethnic culture. On 18th August several events will take place simultaneously throughout Zambrone. The festival offers to the public the Aramonese tasty local cuisine, with particular attention given to sweets and cakes. The Gallery of Arts and... a thousand flavours! gives an insight into indigenous crafts. The Giants, Mata e Grifone, are two huge puppets that evoke an ancient legend of love. Finally the Camejuzza is a fireworks display that traces the historical events of 1061, when the Normans defeated the Saracens. The heart of the exhibition is devoted to ethnic music. The absolute protagonists are all the traditional Calabrian musical instruments. The result is a festival dedicated to the Calabrian tarantella, able to drag everybody into the ethnic dances; women and men, young and old people, children and adults, Italians and foreigners. The theme chosen for the eighth edition is: “Two hundred ... lire”. The reference is to the anniversary of the municipality of Zambrone (two hundred years), but also to a popular and very ancient Calabrian musical instrument (the lyre): a journey that lasts for two centuries and will be told in music. The first band, Giamberiani, plays the music and popular songs of Calabria. The second, Contraggiro, from Murgia (Puglia) will span through the whole repertoire of Southern music; the third one, Arghia, will close with ethnic dances from Calabria. To make the evening, richer and more interesting a narrator will recount our local history while people can visit a large photographic exhibition focusing on the territory and the community.
