TAMBURELLO FESTIVAL
VII edition
UP WITH THE BAGPIPES!
The Tamburello festival is an event aimed at the enhancement of certain segments of regional ethnic culture. On 18 th August several events will take place simultaneously throughout Zambrone. The festival offers to the public the Aramonese tasty local cuisine, with particular attention given to sweets and cakes. The Gallery of Arts and... a thousand flavours! gives an insight into indigenous crafts. The Giants, Mata e Grifone, are two huge puppets that evoke an ancient legend of love. Finally the Camejuzza is a fireworks display that traces the historical events of 1061, when the Normans defeated the Saracens. The heart of the exhibition is devoted to ethnic music. The absolute protagonists are all the traditional Calabrian musical instruments. The result is a festival dedicated to the Calabrian tarantella, able to drag everybody into the ethnic dances; women and men, young and old people, children and adults, Italians and foreigners. The theme of the seventh edition of the festival is: Up with the bagpipes! It is a tribute to a pastoral instrument that in Calabria, depending on geographical areas, is made in four different ways. The first band to perform will be Totarella the beating heart of Mount Pollino musical traditions, right from the north of Calabria. The second group will be that of Marasà, who come from the central part of Calabria; they use old instruments in a modern context and the resulting sound is catchy and addictive. Finally, the concert of the Zampognari of Cardeto Association, solid reference to the authentic and ancestral sounds of southern Calabria.
